Session 2. Learning


The session covered the update step of the algorithm as shown in the sessions structure.

This year I moved examples from the third session (applications) to the beginning of this session. I think this helped to motivate the participants. I also think, the motivation made the effort needed to go over the probability and inference slides more bearable.

The probability section this year included several problems, I think this also helped the participants. However, it made this section of the day a lot longer. Because of this we couldn’t actually stop and write programs to solve the problems.

Participants still like the approach to probabilities used here. It is novel to most of them. This year, participants where very interested in the syllogism and we discuss them plenty.

It seemed like the causal discussion wasn’t new to the participants. This is good news in general.

All accounted, I think the session went better than last time. Next time I need to make sure we actually stop to solve the problems hands on.
